Caribeans Coffee is planted and harvested by indigenous people.  Many coffee plantations are owned by large corporations and the harvesters are imported laborors or indigenous people who receive little pay or profits from their work.  However, Caribeans Coffee does not own its own farms but prefers to purchase coffee from indigenous producers who benifit directly from the quality of their work.  Caribeans exists to help indigenous people preserve their culture and way of life by purchasing their coffee not their land.
Fair trade means fairness.  We believe that we are bringing justice to a people who have seen little good from North American or European cultures.  We hope that the indigenous people who are producing this excellent coffee will be able to be use their land in an economically and ecologically viable way.  Your purchase of Caribeans Coffee or Chocolate is in a small way righting some of the injustice the indigenous people of Costa Rica have experienced.
