Cocoa is an important part of the history here in Puerto Viejo. Everywhere you go there are overgrown and unkept cacao farms, Cocoa bean was at one time the main agricultural activity in Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Manzanillo. However disease moved in at the same time as a sudden drop in cocoa prices causing a no win situation for many farmers.

Caribeans Coffee and Chocolate is working to restore lost roots here in Talamanca. Our goal is to support the people who are restoring

these abandoned trees by purchasing cocoa from the Association of Small Producers of Talamanca. APPTA has %100 certified organic products and supports the needs of small independent farmers throughout the Talamanca region. APPTA is also Fair Trade Certified.

For these reason Caribeans purchases all our cocoa beans from this association.

These organic cocoa beans are then processed and used to make baker's chocolate, cocoa nib bars, dark chocolate truffles and other cocoa products here in our mini factory.
